I developed a Black History Month microsite as part of their "Not Bound by One Month" campaign, presented by Stackwell Capital, to support the team's commitment to honoring Black history and culture beyond the confines of February and hsowcase their initiatives.
Key Features of the Microsite:
Educational Content: The microsite offers a series of videos and articles that delve into various music genres significant to the Black community in Washington, D.C. This content aims to educate fans about the rich musical heritage of the area.
Event Highlights: Visitors can find detailed information about themed home games throughout February, each focusing on different aspects of Black culture and contributions. Themes include Heart Health Awareness, Blacks in the Arts, Carnival Night, HBCU & Divine Nine Night, Banneker STEM Night, and Recognizing Sports and Community Leaders.
Community Spotlights: The platform showcases profiles and stories of Black individuals, businesses, and organizations that have significantly impacted the Washington metropolitan area, celebrating their achievements and contributions.
Financial Empowerment Resources: In partnership with Stackwell Capital, the microsite provides resources aimed at promoting financial wellness and investment education within the Black community. This includes information on programs designed to build generational wealth and promote economic empowerment.
I developed and led the HBCU Battle of the DJs initiative. A competition that spotlights talented DJs from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This event is part of the team's broader initiative to celebrate Black History Month and honor the rich traditions of HBCUs and Divine Nine (D9) organizations.
Event Structure:
Live DJ Competition: DJs from various HBCUs compete in a live event, showcasing their skills to a panel of judges and an enthusiastic audience.
Fan Engagement: Fans are encouraged to support their favorite DJs by participating in voting processes, both online and during the live events. This interactive element fosters a sense of community and allows fans to have a direct impact on the outcome.
Opportunities for Winners:
Victorious DJs earn the prestigious opportunity to perform during Washington Wizards games. For example, DJ Dream Marie from Howard University, the 2024 winner, was honored by DJing during the pregame warmups on HBCU and D9 Night.
Cultural Significance:
The HBCU Battle of the DJs is a cornerstone of the Wizards' Black History Month celebrations. It not only provides a platform for emerging talent but also honors the cultural contributions of HBCUs and D9 organizations. The event typically coincides with the Wizards' HBCU and D9 Night, featuring performances and recognitions that highlight the legacy and impact of these institutions.
